Mmangaliso, remember this name. MaGumbi comes from humble yet world-renown dwellings of Ladysmith, Uthukela district of Kwa-Zulu Natal. She is a singer and songwriter whose story is no different from many South African singers. She started out singing in her local church and home environment from a very young age. She believes that this is what has shaped her singing, not only musically, but in ministry as well.
She matriculated and pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies at Bloemfontein, Free State. Whilst there, she started singing background vocals for local artists. In 2019 she took a bold step and entered the acclaimed national singing competition, Idols SA, where she showcased her talent beyond her usual audiences. By grace and sheer talent, she sailed through the gruelling audition process, and made it all the way to the top 7 of Season 15.
Since the ending of her run on Idols SA she has continued to dedicate her life to singing and ministry. In 2022, she took another leap of faith and submitted a cellphone audition to the #NqbkTalentSearch, and was shortlisted to a pool of 8. Then chosen as a winner for the competition run by the incomparable producer Nqubeko Mbatha. The prize being a signwriting and studio recording experience in which she walks away with a master of her single produced at ED Sounds. In a way orchestrated by only God Himself, she was announced winner in June 2022, and also invited to feature in the line-up for The United Tour concert hosted by Koko Records. There, she performed on the same stage as Ayanda Ntanzi, Nqubeko Mbatha, Ntokozo Mbambo, Khaya Mthethwa, Hle and The Jesus Collective.
As her ministry widens, her only wish is that people’s lives be transformed by God who dwells on the praises of His people, through music.
